South Australia Youth Science Education is a not-for-profit organization that encourages and facilitates science and engineering education among disadvantaged youth across South Australia.
It is about that creativity and ingenuity that is abundant in some youth and trying to help them harness it to better their lives, and the lives of their family, friends, and community. The gifts and talent that go to waste when someone of that level of problem-solving skills and intellect end up incarcerated for lengthy periods is a major issue that will hurt the country in the future. We try and give them the support that they need to keep them on the right path, and hopefully ignite a passion for science, maths and information technology that will see them through past university, not dropping out in year 8 and ending up in a Youth Training Centre.
We organize educational workshops, provide financial support, and operate a mentoring program as some of the avenue by which we facilitate and encourage STEM learning. We work closely with educational partners as well as with social services organizations to meet desired outcomes for our clients.
Clients are usually referred to us through their school, through the youth justice system, or through another community organisation.
Along with our partner organization, Youth Community Outreach and Mentoring SA, we are a registered deductible gift recipient, and maintain operational finances largely through private donations, as well as some government grants.
